The Good Energy social media campaign telling stories of local leaders and businesses

Wilson Transformers is among the North East Victorian "renewable energy leaders" featured in a series of videos being rolled out on social media.

The Good Energy campaign is being run by the Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning as part of the The Hume Renewable Energy Roadmap.

Videos filmed by OGA Creative Agency are being released weekly on Facebook from now until August, and on Tuesday Wilson Transformers were promoted.

General manager Jon Retford said the company had invested $10 million in new machinery and equipment in recent times to account for large renewable projects.

"The renewable energy market is pretty positive at the moment and on the back of that, we've employed an extra 40 people in the last four months," he said.

"It accounts for about 40 percent of our work.

"We still have contracts for every utility in Australia; Energy Queensland is our biggest customer, just for transformers to give power to homes and industries."

It's the company's transformers being paired with SMA inverters to create the 'Power Skid Australia' that are really taking off.

"They're big products; each one deals with 13 hectares of solar panels and we've got projects that need 50 of them," he said.

"We're making one a day.

"We're also doing a lot with battery storage - we're working with Tesla."

The Victorian government committed $300,000 in last year's budget for the development of a strategy for the region.

That funding covers the social media promotion, development of a road-map document and multiple community development events including a bio-energy forum that have occurred within the last year.

Program manager Tom Brown said it was done in collaboration with a steering committee.

"The renewable energy future that we often hear about is actually here, around us right now," he said.

"Your neighbours, your mechanic, the dairy that supplies your milk, and your local council are all the renewable energy leaders.

"With each video of a local renewable energy leader, we'll be sharing some info-graphics.

"One of the important reasons we are doing The Good Energy is because we want to inspire more people in our community to consider joining the renewable energy transformation.

"We also want people to participate in our online survey ... to inform the way we write the Hume Regional Energy Roadmap."

A draft road map will be put out for comment next month and the final document will be launched at a leadership dinner in Wangaratta on August 1.]
