North East Community Energy Network

 What is North East Community Energy Network ?

Convened by MP Cathy Mc Gowan in 2016, a forum was held to provide local advice and progress of the renewable energy agenda in Indi. Attendees being representatives from Indi Councils, community renewable energy groups and industry stakeholders decided to continue working as a group.

RAW Energy was one of seven community energy groups across the North East, that attended a meeting on 26th March 2018 in Wangaratta to  formalize a Community Energy Network.

Called North East Community Network, NECEN  was founded to;

  • Support the launch of a community energy retailer,
  • Participate in renewable energy initiatives,
  • Provide local vision, leadership, know how and effort to inspire collective action,
  • Lobby government and local MPS,
  • Apply for funding and crowd funds, and
  • Form partnerships.

As of 2020, NECEN has expanded to 12 groups from all reaches of North East Victoria. The community energy retailer, Indigo Power, was launched in March 2020 with the help of all these groups.
